...is the art of creating murals and decorating objects with an assemblage of small pieces of coloured glass, stone, china, tiles, metal and just about any other items that will stand the test of time. Whether is it about creating decorative art, religious, statues, objects, mirrors, bowls etc, mosaicing is a very enjoyable hobby.
It can be hazardous to ones hands and eyes. Investing in a good pair of glasses and taking care when handling the sharp pieces one can avoid accidents.
It takes an enormous amount of time to collect, plan create a mosaiced project. It is relatively inexpensive if one collects items like old plates and tiles from friends, garage sales, thrift shops etc. Making friends with tilers and builders is a must.... as they maybe willing to pass on boxes of left over tiles from their jobs.
Most importantly one should ensure that the base they are working on (if it is porous) like wood or terracotta, is well sealed with an appropriate sealer.
Good quality adhesive and grout are also very important to keep the shards adhered to the item and also that the grout will remain in the filled spaces.
I have been mosaicing for over 10 years now, for personal use, sale and as gifts. I also teach from time to time.
I hope you enjoying viewing my blog with some of my projects that I have created.
